The following article demonstrates the process of using the 2020 Office Content Downloader. Frequently asked questions and troubleshooting are available in a separate article here.
What Is the 2020 Office Content Downloader?
The 2020 Office Content Downloader is a downloadable version of the monthly 2020 Office Catalog Content DVD set. Instead of having to swap multiple DVDs in your computer, you may choose instead to download this single large file and run the installer without having to use physical media (DVDs).
Each month the person or persons on your account designated to receive the monthly 2020 Office Catalog Content DVD set will receive an additional email when the 2020 Office Content Downloader is available. This email is typically sent around the middle of the month. The Content Downloader is usually available more than a week before the DVDs, as it does not require creating discs and shipping them through the mail system.
How to Use the 2020 Office Content Downloader
Each month the primary recipient at your company will receive an email when the 2020 Office Content Downloader is available. The email will be sent from "Office.Support@2020spaces.com" and contain the subject "2020 Content Downloader for <MONTH> <YEAR> Available".
Open the email and click the "Get <MONTH> Content Downloader" link.
This will load a web page. On the page enter the email address of the original recipient of the notification email. Only the email address of the original email recipient will work on this page.
After submitting your email address you will be given the option to download the 2020 Office Content Downloader. Click Download.
This will download the "2020ContentDownloader<MONTH>.exe" to your computer. Locate and run this file.
This will start the 2020 Content Downloader for the current month. Click Next.
On the "Begin/resume download" screen leave "Begin New Download" checked and click Next. ("Continue/Resume and existing download" is used if you have previously downloaded a portion of the Content, but had to exit and resume at another time).
You will receive a message recommending that you disable sleep/hibernate mode in Windows. This is due to the fact that the download is very large and many PCs will go to sleep after a certain period of time if left unattended. On some PCs, sleep mode turns off your Internet connection and can interrupt downloads.
On the next screen, select a location to store the download. Note that this is not the location of your 2020 Software installation or your network install. This is the location where this months install files will be saved until the installation is ready to run. Think of it as a "copy" of the same content and installer that is on the DVDs. The download can be 60GB or greater. Choose a location with enough storage space.
The download will begin. The download is large and may take a long time to complete. During this phase you may Pause the install at any time (for example, if you are half done but need to turn your computer off or take your laptop home) and resume the installation later. You may also Cancel the download and decide whether or not to keep the complete percentage of the download.
Once the download is complete click Finish.
The downloaded files will "mount" on your computer as a Drive Letter in Windows. For example the "H:" drive, below. This is like a virtual version of the regular DVDs, except they are sitting on your computer.
Open the new drive letter and run the "autorun.exe" file to begin your installation.
The remainder of the install will run as it always has. For more information please see our installation guides on 2020spaces.com/install.
The downloads may be 60GB or greater in size. After a few months they can fill up your hard drive. You may find it necessary to move or delete the downloaded files after you complete the installation. For suggestions on how to store this data, please see our 2020 Office Content Downloader FAQ and Troubleshooting guide.
In order to be able to move or delete the download you will have to "unmount" the drive letter created by the installation.
To "unmount" a drive:
1. Open Windows Explorer. 2. Right-click on the drive. 3. Click Eject.
